Meet The Bands

Charlotte Hatherley

Aged sweet 17, Charlotte joined Northern Irish rockers Ash, her guitars adding beef to their heavy schedule of live performances. She had toured the world a thousand times and made three studio albums with the boys before she decided to record the collection of self-penned songs that had been growing steadily whilst killing time on the road. This collection became her first solo album, ‘Grey Will Fade’, recorded in Los Angeles with Sir Eric Drew Feldman.

Crystal Castles

Crystal Castles are a Toronto-based band, consisting of multi-instrumentalist Ethan Kath and vocalist Alice Glass. Crystal Castles are known not only for their own efforts as a band, but also for commissioned remixes for a number of groups, including “Hunting for Witches” by Bloc Party, and “Atlantis to Interzone” by friends, Klaxons.

The Gaslight Anthem

“The 59 Sound” is the breakthrough album from The Gaslight Anthem. Already one of the punk undergrounds most celebrated acts, they have a rampant fansbase, that make their shows reverential. Their sound draws upon Bruce Springsteen, Otis Redding and Tom Petty, but is all their own.

The Go! Team

The Go! Team’s first album ‘Thunder Lightning Strike’ sold 130k in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

Grantura

Grantura hail from Camberwell, but create a unique blend of folk/Americana, that is already garnering critical acclaim. “In Dreams And Other Stories” is one of the most compelling and complete albums of 2008. A must listen.

Joan As Police Woman

Joan As Police Woman’s debut album ‘Real Life’ was universally acclaimed. Two years since this critical and commercial success comes the much anticipated follow-up ‘To Survive’.

Jose Gonzalez

José is also keeping incredibly busy with his new band Junip, working with a premier league UK production duo and have even supported the Dalai Lama recently in Sweden, as well as playing support slots for Arcade Fire and Juana Molina.

Martha Wainwright

Hugely anticipated second album from everyone’s favourite collaborator and muse. Neon Neon

Neon Neon’s debut album ‘Stainless Style’ is a highly imaginative slice of conceptual power-pop inspired by the incredible life of playboy automobile impresario, John DeLorean (the maker of the car in ‘Back To The Future’ / busted for cocaine dealing / burnt down his factory / dated Raquel Welsh amongst other supermodels). On ‘Stainless Style’ Super Furry Animals front man and solo star Gruff Rhys and LA based producer Boom Bip unite pop, electro, rock, crunk, hip-hop and italo disco, whilst exploring a range of subjects and events relevant to DeLorean’s life. Album guests include Spank Rock, Yo Majesty, Har Mar Superstar, Fab from The Strokes, Magic Numbers, Fat Lip and more.

Ojos De Brujo

The band labelled “the world’s most exciting group” by the Observer Music Monthly return with a spectacular contemporary take on flamenco and street music. Ojos De Brujo return with a fine collection of all that’s exciting from their base in Barcelona and beyond. ‘Techari’ (‘free’ in Romany) bursts forth with 14 songs that take in their Flamenco and Celtic roots and nourish them with Buleria Funk, Reggae, Tango, Bhangra and Hip Hop.

Adding global spice are special guests Faada Freddy from Daara J, Asian Dub Foundation’s Prithpal Rajput, Nitin Sawhney, Cuban pianist Roberto Carcassés, respected flamenco guitarist Pepe Habichuela and Cuban tres and flamenco guitarist Raúl Rodríguez.

The lead single ‘This Is An Emergency’ is already B-Listed on Radio One and was Scott Mills Single Of The Week when he stood in for Chris Moyles. Produced by Stephen Street, ‘Emergency’ sees the band take on a more grown up and polished sound without breaking away too much from the tunes that made them the biggest selling debut act on an independent label in 2007.

The Stone Gods

When the rollercoaster ride that was The Darkness came to an abrupt and messy end the remaining members of the band formed Stone Gods. Phase one: Stone Gods’ debut EP ‘Burn The Witch’ was a four track extravaganza that sold out its 2000 print run in a flash, and demonstrated just how exciting a proposition Stone Gods truly are. Phase two saw the single release ‘Knight Of The Living Dead’, accompanied by an intimate club headlining tour and festival appearances at Download and Isle Of Wight. Phase three: The release of the band’s debut album, recorded at Dan Hawkins’ own studio and engineered / co-produced by Dan with Nick Brine and mixed by the highly respected Mike Fraser, exactly five years since the release of The Darkness’ debut album ‘Permission To Land’.

The video that will accompany ‘F UR X’ features cameos from director Noel Clarke and the ‘Adulthood’ cast. Sway’s mixtape ‘The Dotted Line’ has been downloaded over 7K times from his MySpace page.
